Energy Metro Station Overview
Energy is the R40 station on the Dubai Metro Red Line, in Zone 2 on the Life Pharmacy branch after the line forks at National Paints (R38). The station sits in the industrial and residential belt of Jebel Ali, one stop south of Ibn Battuta (R39) and one stop north of Danube (R41).
Energy carries most of its daily load in commuter peaks, with workers moving to and from the Jebel Ali Free Zone and surrounding industrial units. For southbound travellers, boarding a Life Pharmacy branded service from Centrepoint takes you straight through this station; an Expo 2020 branded service branches away at National Paints and will not stop here.

Energy Station opening hours and facilities
Energy station keeps the standard RTA opening hours, the same right across the network:
- Monday to Thursday: 5:00 AM to 12:00 AM
- Friday: 5:00 AM to 1:00 AM
- Saturday: 5:00 AM to 12:00 AM
- Sunday: 8:00 AM to 12:00 AM
Energy has the standard Dubai Metro facilities, confirmed in the official RTA passenger guide. The station is step-free, with lifts to all levels, tactile guidance paths, and dedicated wheelchair spaces on every train. Nol card machines and a ticket counter sit inside the concourse, alongside bilingual signage and information screens. Du Wi-Fi covers the network.
Every regular train carries three cabin types: Gold Class at one end, a Women and Children cabin with pink signage, and Standard cabins. Door pictograms on the platform show where each cabin stops. The station has at least one bus connection, dedicated Metro Police, CCTV throughout, and emergency call points on every platform and train.
Allow a few minutes extra at Energy on weekday mornings. Southbound services from Centrepoint carry commuters out to the industrial parks, so platforms get busy around 6:30 to 7:30 AM. If you can shift your journey ten minutes either way, the ride is noticeably quieter.
From DUBAL to Energy: a 2015 rename
Energy opened in 2013 under its original name, DUBAL, after the Dubai Aluminium Company whose smelter plant sits in the Jebel Ali industrial area a short distance from the station. Gulf News reported that the DUBAL station was renamed Energy a few weeks before the Red Line extension launched, with the simultaneous rename of BurJuman to the Khalid Bin Waleed name used by the station on official RTA signage inside the paid area.
The DUBAL label itself reflected an earlier era of Jebel Ali’s industrial character, when aluminium production and the free-zone logistics corridor defined the area’s identity. The rename to Energy sits inside RTA’s naming programme that lets corporate sponsors hold station names for a term, usually 10 years, with the physical station unchanged throughout.
A commuter stop for Jebel Ali’s workforce
The station’s daily rhythm is driven by shift patterns rather than tourism. The surrounding Jebel Ali industrial zone and workforce accommodation blocks are the main source of boarding passengers, with the busiest flows southbound in the early morning and northbound in the late afternoon. The reverse direction remains quiet by Metro standards.
For most casual visitors, the practical value of this station is as a boarding point between Ibn Battuta Mall and the deeper Life Pharmacy branch stops. Trains run through every few minutes at peak and up to about seven minutes apart off-peak, with the usual Metro station facilities inside: step-free access, Nol top-up machines, and a bus stand at street level. Local buses then fan out into the industrial roads where the station is set well back from any tourist walking route.
For a quick orientation on arrival, Exit 2 lines up with the main road corridor and the bus stops that feed the industrial parks. Taxis are easier to find at Exit 1, since the drop-off and pick-up area has more space for them to wait between trains.
Fares from Energy Station
Fares depend on how many zones your trip crosses, not how many stations you pass. A Silver Nol card costs AED 3 within one zone, AED 5 across two zones, and AED 7.50 for three or more zones, per the RTA Nol fares page. A personal Blue Nol card pays the same as Silver. Gold Class costs double: AED 6, 10 or 15 across the same bands.
Without a Nol card, the Red ticket is a separate, higher tariff of AED 4, 6 or 8.50 by zone band, and the blank ticket costs AED 2 to buy. Children aged five and under travel free, and travel is free for People of Determination.
